Little Man and I were supposed to have company today. Unfortunately, that visit was canceled at the last minute, and I was left grasping for things we could do together, just the two of us. I know that I’m really lucky to be able to stay at home with Little Man. I get that a lot of moms would leap off a tall building for the chance to stay home with their kids. Seriously though, there are days when the hours just can’t go by quickly enough until Hubby comes home and provides me some relief.
Today was a long day because it was extremely hot outside and also because when we stepped into our back yard, there was a cloud of bees hovering around us. I had sprayed them previously, but apparently not enough, ’cause they’re back and now they’re pissed off. Great. Thanks, Raid. Thanks for nothing. So, due partially to my own paranoia around anything that flies and stings and due partially to Little Man’s fear of anything that flies and stings, we dashed back into the house, arms flailing, knees knocking, and ears buzzing, both of us asking the other, “are there any on me?”
So. It was an inside day. A long inside day.
Some of what we accomplished today:
*Many, many K’Nex creatures.
*Many, many puppet shows, starring the above K’Nex creatures.
*Lots and lots and egads! LOTS of colouring. (I actually don’t mind colouring with my boy. I find it somewhat relaxing and it was especially great today because Little Man’s skills with writing/colouring utensils have improved drastically in the last little while.)
*Two 100-piece puzzles. Done from the inside out, mind you, but done. Oh, and I can’t really take any credit. I was more of a cheerleader, as Little Man hates being assisted in his puzzle-ing. And in case you care, he did his puzzles from the inside-out. Sssshhhhh! Don’t tell the OT.
*3 Loads of laundry. Little Man can’t really take much credit for this. Though, he’s great at putting the clothes into the washer and dryer, and pushing all the buttons. Come to think of it, I guess he can take some of the credit. Now to get him trained in the folding and the putting-away of said laundry!
*A nutritious and delicious edible lunch was prepared and eaten.
*A nutritious and delicious somewhat flavourful dinner was prepared.
*One bath for Little Man.
*One shower for me.
*27.5 peeks at the laptop to see if I had any comments or emails.
*5 Play-Doh snails, 6 Play-Doh spaghetti and meatballs dinners, 35 Play-Doh pizzas, 1 Play-Doh margarita. Again, ssssshhhhhhhhh!!!!
*52.3 episodes of various children’s television shows. More sssshhhhhh!!!!
So seriously, how the frig did we fit all that in today? Hubby was only at work for 8 hours. It was the day that felt like it would never end. I felt torn because, on the one hand, I was being a “Good Enough Mama,” but on the other hand, I was bored a lot and wishing I could be somewhere else. So then I felt guilty for feeling that way. Ach. Guilt Road is closed for construction, Kia. Take a detour!

Here’s a suggestion. Give Little Man a Little Sibling. Then you can add “Refereeing fights” to your list of things you accomplished.
Little Man is a good colorer, way better than Chee.
I totally get the long days with the kid(s) thing. Totally get it. Is it bad that I know we have seven weeks of summer left? And that I’m counting down? I love them, I do, but when they both don’t nap it makes for a DOUBLY long day.
I hope you’ve got something fun and *out* on the agenda for tomorrow.

I found you through Wendy (Funny Things Are Everywhere)…
Sounds like you had a very productive day!
Being a SAHM is the toughest job in the world…good for you for spending QUALITY time with your Little Man!

A Little Sibling??? Surely you jest! I’m afraid I couldn’t survive another Little anything. Seriously.
And it’s not bad that you know how much time is left in summer vacation. I think most stay-at-home moms could tell you the answer to that!
I think LM’s a little bit older than Chee. 6 months ago, his colouring looked more like scribbling! She’ll get it.
We at least have friends coming over tomorrow. Hopefully these ones don’t cancel! Oh, and I was just outside. My latest Raid Warrior Expedition seems to have had more success than previous attempts. Woooooohoooo!

I enjoyed my year off with the kids (mat-leave with the littlest) but I know the long-never-ending-crap-what-are-we-going-to-do-next days. I think those days just help us appreciate the days where we’re having so much fun that the day just flies by! And maybe helps us appreciate DH a bit more when then come home to “rescue” us. LOL!
As for teh bees/wasps/flying things. Find the hive and at dusk and spray it. No, I’m not crazy (okay, maybe a little). They all go home at night and are all in the hive at dusk. So if you spray then you’ll kill most (in not all) of the little f*ckers! We get wasps boring into our deck so I’ve got some experience in this matter. Good luck and let me know if that helps at all.
(Are my comments longer than your post yet?)

A play-doh margarita? Seriously?
And Little Man colors much better than the Tongginator, who I believe is older than him? She has a March 2004 birthday. The Tongginator and I need to work on fine motor skills. (I stole the clothespin idea from GoodFountain, who I believe stole it from someone else whose name escapes me.)

MG, I have never appreciated DH more than I do lately. He’s so amazing with Little Man, he’s a virtual saint. I’m so, so lucky to have him.
Tonggu, yes, seriously.
Clothespin idea? Do tell!!! Please.

Oh, I so get how boring it can be. I’ve started finding places I love going to take J., but I know that must be challenging with LM’s struggles. Good for you for being present and doing it, though. I know it’s hard. And feeling bored is nothing to feel guilty about. I think it’s normal. You have an adult brain. Kids games aren’t going to be the kind of stimulation you need.
