If you are an SPD parent and you’ve been reading my blog on a regular basis, you’ll know that I’ve done a lot of reading about sensory integration and occupational therapy and so on. Well, Carol Stock Kranowitz has led me to a discovery: A magazine that she has a huge part in producing.
The magazine is called S.I. Focus. You can read about it here.
This is the exciting part!! I have ordered a subscription for myself and with my subscription comes a second FREE subscription! At no cost to me or you! If you’re an SPD parent or you know of someone who should learn more about SPD, all you have to do is leave a comment on this post, explaining why you should get the free subscription. On Wednesday August 6th, I’ll pick the answer that I like the best and that person will be awarded the free magazine subscription.
Of course, if you are chosen, you’ll need to provide me with your name and mailing address (before Friday August 8th, or I’ll have to choose someone else, as this is a time-sensitive offer from the magazine) so that I can forward the info to the magazine’s office. Thanks so much!!

What a great magazine. I had never heard of it but since SI is a huge part of our days I think it is a great resource to have!
Now for the question – why. I’d say I should receive the free subscription because not only am I a mom of two children with sensory integration issues (also both on the autism spectrum) but I have sensory issues myself. Combining my sensory defensiveness with my daughter’s sensory seeking is oh so much fun hehe.

Why should I receive the magazine? I shouldn’t – let someone else who deserves it more get it. But I’d love to have it anyway. SPD had been such a huge part of our lives for the past two years – a wild, roller coaster of a ride. If I received the magazine, I’d devour it and then photocopy anything outstanding and pass those articles to teachers, librarians, coaches – anyone who deals with kids and may not understand. I’d use it to help my older kids understand that their baby sister isn’t being a spoiled brat, but that she has an issue. In short, it’d be an educational tool for me.

Kia,
Thank you so much for visiting my blog and complimenting me on my weight loss! It’s always nice when someone other than my close friends comes upon my blog.

Very cool. I followed Carol Kranowitz’s links and thought the magazine sounds great! Can I say how incredibly freaking jealous I am that she found your blog and commented! I mean, wow!!
Why should I receive the free subscription? To be honest, it’s because I want to contribute to the magazine!! I hope you find that reason enough.
By the way, have I mentioned how simply gorgeous you seem to be today? Is that a new ‘do?

Melissa, I can’t even imagine having two kids with SPD. Well, actually I can. That’s why I’ve sworn myself to never have another child. hehehehe
Carmen, I don’t know what you’re talking about, because those all sound like great reasons that you should get the magazine!
Amy, you’re so welcome! Kudos to you!!
GF, I have to admit: I’m somewhat starstruck. Let’s just say there was some dancing in my house last night. Oh, did I mention that I don’t dance? And, well, you have mentioned how gorge I am today, but you’re free to keep mentioning it. Which part of my beauty do you find particularly awesome today?

Yes I’m a regular reader, althought I don’t comment often. I’ve been a mom of an SPD guy for almost 9 years, raising him for 7 of them mostly on my own. I’d like the magazine subscription because well honestly I’m cheap and can’t afford to buy one on my own, and I’d have great bathroom reading material when I get a few moments to myself!

This is WONDERFUL! But no need to include me in the drawing because I doubt the post office will know how to deliver to “Tonggu Momma.” LOL. We’ll be ordering this ourselves, though, so thank you so much for the information. And I’m excited to learn who will receive the free subscription.

You will love the magazine. My only complaint about it is it only comes out every other month and is just not long enough. They could double the page count and it probably still wouldn’t be enough for me. I got my sister a subscription when I subscribed at a conference I went to in November. The speakers were Carol Kranowitz and Lucy Jane Miller. Have you read Miller’s book “Sensational Kids?” If not, I would highly recommend it. It is my favorite–it really spells out SPD so clearly and breaks it down into categories I hadn’t seen explained before. Check it out!

Laura, cheapness is as good a reason as any!
GB, yes, very cool!
TM, you’re right. I think they might catch onto your alias. Could be a post office nightmare!
Patty, I’m so glad you think the mag is that great. It makes me eve more eager to get my first copy! And yes, I’ve read Sensational Kids. It’s good too, you’re right!

I guess this is a hard one to answer. I am not deserving of it. But why I would LIKE it is very easy to answer. I have two children with SPD. They also have other issues that make the SPD treatments hard. We are just scraping by mnay months due to the therapies, special tools to help them, expensive elemental formulas, thickeners for bottles and solids, two in diapers because my older son won’t potty train due to his SPD, and so on and so on and so on. This is such a confusing world to live in, that of an SPD family. Some clear guidance and help would be a God send.
