Here’s the skinny, as opposed to the fat, because it’s late and I’m tired:
I went to a parent orientation night at a different school on Thursday night. It felt really good there. The director (who also happens to be the kindergarten teacher) is a 70-something whipper snapper who really seems to have a love for kids and has some awesome chutzpah or oomph or some shit like that. The orientation went on for 2.5 hours and all the teachers have sent their own kids to the school and then stuck around to become workers at the school apparently due to the awesome aura or che or chi or chee or feng shheeeeway or something. Whatevs. I signed the buggar up. And when I stuck out my hand to shake with 70-something teacher? She told me to give her a hug. And I think she meant the hug. Know what I mean?
Little Man and I are dragging our arses skipping over there Tuesday afternoon for the first visit in a staggered entry system. It’s a little too far away for my liking and a little too expensive for Hubby’s liking, but I really got a good feeling about it. So we’re going for it. I’ve had a good talk with Little Man about it and told him that I really liked the people there and that I think he will too. He better.
So please: say a couple of prayers. Something like this should do:
1. Please let Little Man love the shit out of this place and the people in it.
2. Please don’t let the 70-something teacher die or go into cardiac arrest or some shit while she’s with my kid. I haven’t taught him about 9-1-1 yet. Maybe it’s time.
Um, yeah. Thanks.
Kia

OMG you are AWFUL!!!
“Please don’t let the 70-something teacher die or go into cardiac arrest or some shit while she’s with my kid. I haven’t taught him about 9-1-1 yet. Maybe it’s time.”
I’ve been waiting ALL day for your post dammit.
GREAT news that you found a nice school. What a load off huh?
In my experience, and I have lots of it with teachers, considering I have two kids in school and am the chair of council, older teachers are MUCH better most of the time….did I mention both my boys have teachers that are young enough to be my children this year? OK maybe not THAT young, but they are young. Crap…I like the old huggers. Young ones don’t hug.

Yay! So glad you found this school! And, I’m praying for you word for word from your request! Love it. For Number 1 request, I added “Dear Jesus” after the word Please. I did the same for request Number 2 and then added an Amen at the end!
I love HUGS. I am a teacher who HUGS!

Dawn:
Awful? Moi? Pshaw! I calls em as I sees em.
I know. I feel the same way about old haggy teachers. They’ve seen everything. They get worried moms because they’ve been there. All that shit.
Waiting all day for my post? Have you no life at all? How sad for you…
She: Thanks a bunch!!! You’re awesome!
Kari: Yes! Better and better and better.

A teacher who asks for a hug instead of a handshake is a winner in my vote! (Whatever that means!) Anyway I certainly do hope it all works out and Ms 70-something saves her apoplexy for the summer vacation. Now I’M bad! I like the word apoplexy, it’s better than saying heart attack! It’s what they used in the old days. I’m rambling! Have a great week! I’ll miss you while we’re away!!!!

When my million year old great grandmother used to babysit me, my father would say,”if you don’t behave, she’ll die.” That was child rearing back then, and I turned out ok! twitch, twitch, swap at imaginary flies…

Re school: Yay! I so so so hope this is just what LM (and you!) need.
Word to the wise? Don’t teach LM about 9-1-1 like EVER. Foster screams 9-1-1 whenever he’s upset, which often happens to be at soccer games and in stores, where people can be easily alarmed and fooled into thinking something’s truly wrong. I can’t figure out how to make him understand what a “real” emergency is because he’s in such sensory-overload-panic in those situations that he really thinks everything is a 9-1-1 emergency.

Laura, you’re going away? Somewhere fun, I hope! Let me know when you’re back.
GF, thanks!
Pixie, good, GOOD point. I will beware the unauthorized use of the term “9-1-1!!!” Thanks for the advice!
Marinka, that totally sounds like something my dad would have said, too. It’s amazing, twitch, twitch, that we can twitch function twitch at twitch all, isn’t it?

It sounds like the school is awesome–screw the distance and the money.

Believe me, I will be praying for you! I’m getting good vibes from this 70-something teacher. Sue’s preschool is run by a similarly-sounding late 70s whipper snapper of a teacher, and it is a simply divine school. Wish Edward was young enough to attend it but it stops at Pre-K.
This is going to be good! Yes it is!

That is fabulous. I am so excited for you. My MIL was a kindergarten teacher for something like 30 years and just retired around the age of 60-something. She was so awesome she actually won that national teacher’s award (I should know what it is called, having been a teacher myself, but obviously I never won the thing…) I will be prayng LM has a wonderful experience and that the teacher lives forever!

There’s a lot to be said for your instincts and I definitely think it’s worth the extra drive and extra money, if it’s a positive experience for your little guy. I’m sending you good first day vibes and I’ll be praying things go smoothly tomorrow. And that the teacher has a significantly long life span.

If she’s 70 and still teaching, she MUST love kids and love what she’s doing.
